The world of giant squids has lost a legend.
On Thursday last week, a Philippine government vessel opened fire on a Taiwanese fishing boat that may have strayed out of Taiwan economic zone, 164 nautical miles southwest of the country’s southern tip.
Up to 40 bullets hit the boat. One of the more deadly ones struck 65-year-old Hung Shih-cheng.
Damn you, Philippines government shooters. Damn you all to Hell.
Because in 2006, Hung came back from a fishing trip off his home island of Siaoliouciou dragging a SEVEN-METRE GIANT SQUID behind him.
It was one of the first real flesh instances of a proper kraken, weighing in at 211kg. He sold it for about $570 at a fish market, presumably to be eaten by some soon-to-be very disappointed calamari lovers.
Family members told focustaiwan Hung’s wife has not eaten since he was shot dead. She is appealing to her government to bring his killers to justice.
